Signed Icon

Using the Signed Icon

The free "Signed" icon you choose will be displayed next to your auction title in all category lists and search results.  This icon draws attention to your listing and allows browsers to quickly identify which items are Signed.

Any book declared to be Autographed must include this icon and must contain an image of the signature OR a statement of provenance or lack thereof*

You must also make an attempt to authenticate the signature's authenticity by comparing it to one of the many online reference sites that offer vetted signature for comparison.  Because of the proliferation of "light box" signature (traced) sold as "autographed" on other websites where there is no accountability, we require you make a statement concerning your knowledge of the authenticity of the autograph you are claiming.  If you cannot find a reference to compare it to, you must say so.

*A statement of provenance or lack thereof.
prov·e·nance    (prv-nns, -näns) n.
  1. Place of origin; derivation.
  2. Proof of authenticity or of past ownership. Used of art works and antiques.
  • A statement of where you obtained the autographed item and how you declare that it is authentic.  ("signed in my presence at _____________ on 3/14/97", or "Purchased at ____________ bookstore in 1968 - Compares well to vetted signature on webpage ______________", or "Purchased from _____________ book dealer in May 1998, but no online reference found to compare it against").
  • If you do not know if your autograph is authentic, you simply say so, giving any relevant details that may help the prospective buyer determine the authenticity of the signature ( "Purchased at a library sale, no online reference found to compare it to", "Purchased at a garage sale, could not find an online reference to compare it to, but author lives in a neighboring community", Don't know where it was obtained, compares well to signature found at _____________ website").
  • A complete "Lack Thereof" statement is also acceptable ( "I don't know where this book was obtained and I cannot find any online reference to compare it to.")
